Beef drop 2017 opener on the road to Bandits

Sioux City’s Dominique Carson rushed for two touchdowns and returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown to carry Sioux City to a season-opening 63-44 win over the Beef in Champions Indoor Football action on Saturday night.

Anthony Iannotti passed for 156 yards and three touchdowns for the Beef (0-1), who had offensive lineman Aneus Ruiz carried off the field on a stretcher following an injury in the fourth quarter.

The Bandits (1-0) built a 21-6 lead in the first quarter after a 37-yard touchdown pass from Taylor Genuser to Jeremiah Oates.

The Beef would pull within 42-36 on a 4-yard run by Calvin Phillips with 2:46 remaining in the third.

But Sioux City answered with a pair of rushing touchdowns, as Carson scored from 8 yards out and Jeffrey Mack added a 9-yard score to give the Bandits a 56-36 lead.

The Beef will host Salina in their home opener on March 10 at Ralston Arena. Tickets are on sale now at the Beef office by calling 402-346-2333.
