Champions Indoor Football League is excited to announce they will be expanding into the Kansas City, MO market in 2017. Dr. Ken Vehec and several other owners including former Nebraska Huskers Outland Trophy winner & Kansas City Chiefs Player Will Shields have purchased a franchise in the CIF to play professional indoor football in the Kansas City area.
Dr. Vehec has been part of the ownership of other AFL teams including the Orlando Predators and brings an experienced crew with him to run this new team. Dr. Vehec said, “ We intend to bring a fan friendly, affordable product to that is part of the community and a competitor on the field the city can be proud of.” It is yet to be announced exactly where the team will play, as well as a team name and colors.
The CIF was founded in August of 2012. The league was formed with just 6 teams and in a few short years now has 14 teams with franchises in Texas, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, North Dakota and now Missouri. The league will be broken into 3 divisions and Kansas City will be joining the Central Division. Commissioner Randy Sanders said, “This is a great team to add to our footprint and we are proud to have Dr. Vehec’s organization join our league”. The CIF’s 2017 will start at the end of February and their excited about the new franchise in Kansas City.
