Omaha Fashion Week August 2016 is in full effect. Over the last 9 years OFW has flourished into the nations fifth largest fashion event. This exciting red carpet affair nurtures some of the area’s youngest fashion designers by providing educational opportunities, mentoring, and a professional platform to showcase their masterpieces.
The designs we have seen thus far have been phenomenal and we are only half way through the week! Each night reveals the showcases of multiple designers with a different focus each night. Saturday evening, designers will be preparing for the final showcase of Omaha Fashion Week August 2016. This showcase will feature the best of fashion week. Top designers were previously selected at Rack Check earlier in the month on August 6th. At Rack Check, designers presented their completed collections to the OFW Panel for scoring.
Top scores will be representing the finale line up. These designers showing at the VIP Finale will be competing for the Omaha Fashion Cup prize package valued at $24,000. Sunday is “Shop the Runway”, a free event for all fashion lovers, giving the public access to shop the looks straight from this weeks OFW designers. Enjoy both the Mimosa and Bloody Mary bar, amazing Petits doughnuts, and coffee if you please while you browse and shop!
Something very exciting was mentioned Monday evening during the show. Metropolitan Community College will be introducing a Fashion Design program to their Visual Arts Department. Students can look forward to taking courses in Fashion Design Principles, Fashion Illustration, History of Fashion, among others. The program will also offer several electives to choose from focusing on Entrepreneurship and 3 separate apprenticeships which are coordinated through Omaha Fashion Week. The program will begin this fall, offered at the Elkhorn Valley Campus, and will also be available for dual credit opportunities at local high schools with fashion programs.
Every year over a thousand people go in to making Omaha Fashion Week a success. Designers, models, and other creatives work hard every season to put on the Midwest’s premiere fashion event. In addition, there is a phenomenal group of sponsors that support Omaha Fashion Week each season. This season, sponsors include SAC Federal Credit Union, Borsheim’s Fine Jewelry and Gifts, KETV, Pretty in Patina, Dermatologist Specialists of Omaha, Cutchall Management, Develop Model Management, Westroads Mall, Motion Content House, Cadillac, Heather and Jameson Photography, and Immanuel Communities.
