Most of Nebraska’s hikes are more or less completely horizontal thanks to our terrain. But there’s one unique hike that will take you vertical and lead you to some of the most spectacular views in the whole state.
There is no fee to climb the tower, and it’s open year-round. You can arrange a tour of the inside (with a couple days’ notice) by calling (308) 533-2257. Be aware that the climb is rated as challenging, and the tower is not accessible. The only way to reach the top is by climbing the stairs.
To get to the tower from Highway 2, turn south into the forest. After crossing the river, stay to the right on State Spur 86B. Follow 86 B about 3 miles to its end, which is a loop around the tower.
