The Spectacular Spot In Nebraska Where You Can Camp Right On The Beach

If you’ve been in Nebraska for any significant amount of time, you’ve probably heard of Lake McConaughy. Nebraska’s largest lake is also one of its most popular outdoor attractions, with hundreds of thousands of visitors making the journey there every year. If you want to extend your stay past just one afternoon, there are plenty of campsites, cabins, and RV parks all around to accommodate you. But for a one-of-a-kind experience, consider camping right on the beach.

You’ll need a Nebraska Park Entry Permit to get into Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area. 2017 prices are $30 annual or $6 daily for vehicles licensed in Nebraska, and $45 annual or $8 daily for vehicles registered outside of Nebraska. There is an additional primitive camping fee of $10 per night for beach campsites. If you prefer a little less roughing it, modern campsites with electricity, water, and sewer are available – but they’ll cost a little more and you won’t be right on the beach. See the State Recreation Area’s site for more information on camping and other lodging.
