10 Family-Friendly Restaurants to Grab a Bite in Omaha

Traveling with children is a joy, but it can have its stressful moments – especially when everyone is hungry. We’re here to help keep you happy and well-fed with this list of 10 family-friendly restaurants featuring kids menus and amenities and some extra fun.

The Brunch Box

What could be more fun for kids than a robot kitty delivering iced cinnamon rolls to their table? The Brunch Box, located in the Old Market Entertainment District, features cozy booths and whimsical art as well as Bella Meow, the server robot. The $5 kids box includes an entree, drink and mini froyo. Entrees can be made traditionally, vegan or gluten-free. On Fridays from 4pm to 8pm, kids eat free! The Brunch Box recently opened a second location in the Capitol District.

Timber Wood Fired Bistro

Are you having a rough start to the week? Forget making dinner. On Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays, kids entrees are half-price (kids 12 and under, not including brunch) at Timber Wood Fired Bistro. Some of the options your budding gourmand can choose from include a filet medallion, cedar planked salmon or a wood-fired pizza. Caregivers enjoy scratch-made meals featuring locally sourced meats, scrumptious salads and soups, and hand-stretched pizzas.

Mama’s Pizza

Family-owned for more than 40 years, Mama’s Pizza is a local favorite for a casual family night out. Today, there are four locations, but consider visiting the original one in midtown Omaha. The pizza is the star here – with its daily scratch-made dough – but sandwiches and pastas are also crowd-pleasers. A kids menu comes to the rescue of parents with picky eaters.

Ollie & Hobbes Craft Kitchen

Ollie & Hobbes serves scratch-cooked entrees in a cozy and comfortable family-friendly setting. Adults can choose from a broad menu of entrees, salads, soups, sandwiches and burgers. Happy hour from Monday to Friday from 3pm to 6pm and all day Sunday is a hit with families with early bedtimes. Save on appetizers, select entrees and alcoholic drinks. Kids can stick to well-prepared classics or stretch their palate with sirloin steak and truffle fries.

Curry in a Hurry

Curry in a HurryYour budding artists can create masterpieces on the oversized white board at Curry in a Hurry while they wait for their meals. And, as the restaurant’s name suggests, they won’t wait long. A special kids meal includes a mini curry bowl, small side, sweet and choice of chocolate milk or lemonade. The regular menu includes chicken, lamb, fish and vegan proteins as well as Indian street food, dosa, desserts and alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages. Plus kids eat free on Tuesdays!

Good Lookin’

Counter service can be really convenient for parents of young children. Order and pay, sit and wait for your food to arrive. When you’re done, there’s no need to stick around for the bill. In kid-friendly historic Dundee, Good Lookin’ serves elevated Midwestern breakfast, brunch and lunch in a light-filled dining room. Spread out at a spacious table and help yourself to all-you-can drink coffee at the bar.

Greek Islands

This family-owned restaurant (and this year’s Omaha Metropolitan Area Tourism Awards winner) has been serving up Greek dishes for three decades. Order a Tour of Greece to share, with classics like spanakopita, keftedes, tiropita and more. The menu features salads, soups and gyros, tender souvlakis, rich moussaka and a kids section featuring both Greek and American fare. Don’t skip on dessert. The baklava – and the baklava ice cream – are favorite local treats.

Surfside Club

Catch a breeze with the kids, enjoy live music and tuck into fried foods. Crowd-pleasing favorites include a chicken dinner, pork tenderloin, fried catfish, or a ⅔-pound cheeseburger, all served with corn fritters, homemade coleslaw and crinkle fries. After your meal, dance it out with the kiddos or set them loose to the nearby bounce house.

Inner Rail Food Hall

Here’s an Omaha parenting hack just for you. Grab drinks at Sonny’s and order dinner from one of the many vendors at Inner Rail Food Hall, find a spot outside to eat and listen to live music while your kid joins the pack of other little ones frolicking, dancing or playing lawn games.

Yamato Sushi Train and Grill

A winding conveyor belt features a colorful parade of rolls, nigiri, noodles, salads, dumplings and pastries. Sit at the adjoining counter and flip back the glass to grab what you like. As if that wasn’t enough to entertain the kids, a Japanese bullet train, located on a track above the conveyor belt, delivers hot dishes – like grilled meats or rice. It’s an exciting and unique Omaha dining experience.
