Reporter Madelyn Schmidt explains how the program is designed to strengthen the state’s healthcare workforce.
Two University of Nebraska campuses are expanding their partnership to better serve students and communities across the state.
UNMC and UNO have formed an early admission pathway aimed at strengthening Nebraska’s nursing workforce.
“UNMC is a campus that thrive on partnerships. We grow our healthcare workforce throughout the state.”
The program is expected to attract high-achieving students and provide clearer guidance as they move from undergraduate study into professional nursing careers.
UNMC’s Interim Chancellor Dr. H. Dele Davies says that this program can be a model for all university models moving forward.
“UNO is a very important partner with us. We have a lot of very strong partner relationships with them. All pf the students who come to UNMC start from UNO.”
Leaders at both universities say this agreement strengthens long-standing ties between UNO and UNMC while creating new opportunities for students and communities they’ll eventually serve.
“Being able to have this affiliation agreement with UNO will simplify the pathway for students who know they want to become a nurse and they don’t need to now wait till they’ve established themselves from UNO to try and figure out what their path is so they’ll be accepted right out of high school to UNMC.”
Both Universities say this agreement highlights the power of collaboration in meeting Nebraska’s workforce need.
University leaders say that the early admission pathway will begin immediately, giving current and future pre-nursing students a clearer route into the profession.
