There is a First Friday rumor circulating on local roundup pages this week. Bemis Center’s own events listing does not advertise a Friday gallery walk, and it does not list a public program for Saturday or Sunday. What Bemis is actually promoting right now is a free concert next Thursday.
That distinction matters if you are trying to plan a weekend around contemporary art. We are not sending you to a gallery night the venue has not announced.
What Bemis is advertising: Magic Tuber Stringband on Nov. 12
Live at LOW END: Magic Tuber Stringband is Thursday, November 12, from 8 to 9:30 p.m. at 724 S. 12th St. Admission is free. Bemis says ticket reservations are encouraged.
The North Carolina trio plays folk instruments with an experimental streak. Bemis describes them as writers and players working the edge of avant composition and Southeastern folk tradition, and notes their latest record, Heavy Water, came out May 22 on Thrill Jockey. That is the venue talking, not a review. If you want to hear what they actually sound like before Thursday, start with the record and then let the room surprise you.
What we are not claiming
Bemis’s public events page, read Friday evening, listed this concert and a later LOW END date (Chief Adjuah on December 10) and did not list a weekend exhibition opening or a Friday night art walk. Competitor roundups are not a source. If Bemis posts gallery hours or a weekend program, we will add it then.
Until Thursday, treat this as a hold-the-date: a free, reserved-ticket show in the Bemis building, not a substitute for wandering the galleries unannounced.
The concert is now on our Free calendar.
