Chinese Association of Zoological Gardens Visits the Zoo

Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium is one of five American zoos that the Chinese Association of Zoological Gardens’ (CAZG)  will visit for annual training. Six directors of Chinese zoos will tour Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium on Sunday, October 15 and Monday, October 16.

While at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, CAZG guests will take an in depth tour of Zoo grounds, including the Lied Jungle, Suzanne and Walter Scott Aquarium and Desert Dome. They will meet with representatives from our animal management, education and science departments on topics such as population management, accreditation, general zoo management, conservation and research, and education. Programming will focus on effective zoo management as CAZG prepares to switch to a privatized system similar to the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).

The president of CAZG as well as representatives from the Shijazhuang Zoo, Kunming Zoo, Chengdu Zoo and Ererduosi Longshen Safari Park will be taking part in the training. Additional zoos CAZG directors will visit include Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, WA; Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden; Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and The Wilds in Cumberland, Ohio.
