The Council Bluffs Library partnered with Prairie Rivers of Iowa to bring in their Lincoln Highway Heritage exhibit. The exhibit will showcase how the highway got started and how it helped with the development of Council Bluffs and brought in tourism.

Lincoln Highway Heritage Coordinator Jeanie Hou said her favorite part of the exhibit is being able to travel the highway.

“Really traveling the highway and seeing libraries and people, the different people who have experienced the highway,” said Prairie Rivers of Iowa – Lincoln Highway Heritage Coordinator Jeanie Hou on her favorite part about working on the exhibit.

There are some parts of the original highway in Iowa that you can still travel; other parts are just memories now. Much of the early highway was dirt roads through the Loess Hills. Travelling north on Broadway in Council Bluffs, Iowa will eventually lead into the historic highway, with signs displaying an L to say someone is on the right path.

Pottawattamie Historical Society member Troy Stolp. Lectured guests on the Lincoln Highway’s local history. He says that it wasn’t only the views or stops along the highway that made it so special but also the people and the culture they created throughout the decades.
