Drink of the Week: the Pisco Sour

The Pisco Sour is a classic cocktail from Peru, made with Pisco, a type of South American brandy, lime juice, simple syrup and egg whites. The Pisco Sour is a delicate and balanced drink, where the sweetness and acidity of the lime juice are balanced by the sugar and the egg whites give the drink a creamy and frothy texture. To make a Pisco Sour you will need:

  • 2 oz Pisco
  • 3/4 oz lime juice
  • 3/4 oz simple syrup
  • 1 egg white
  • Angostura bitters, for garnish

In a shaker, combine the Pisco, lime juice, simple syrup, and egg white. Shake without ice for about 30 seconds to emulsify the egg white. Then add ice and shake again for 15-20 seconds. Strain into a chilled glass, and garnish with a few drops of Angostura bitters. Pisco is a unique spirit, as it is made from a specific type of grape and distilled in a specific way, making it different from brandies or other distilled spirits. Pisco Sour is a great way to try it in a cocktail.
