The Omaha Beef showed why they have the top-rated defense in the Champions Indoor football. The Beef (6-0) defense scored three times as Omaha remained perfect with a 45-12 win over the Billings Outlaws (2-4). Omaha has a one game lead over Gillette and Sioux City as they stand at 5-1. The Beef came into the game allowing an average of 23.2 points per game and only allowed two touchdowns to the OutlawsBillings offense was held to 113 yards of offense. 

Omaha defense got on the scoreboard first as JayShawn Washington picked up a fumble and returned it for a touchdown. The Outlaws finally scored with 13:00 left in the second quarter as two-way star D’Nerius Antoine punched it in from two yards out, but newly signed Billings kicker Darrien Crowe missed the extra point kick and the Beef led 7-6. Tommy Armstrong, who had 7 rushes for 13 yards in the game, added two touchdowns runs and the Beef took a 21-6 lead into halftime.  

Omaha opened the third quarter with week 7 special teams’ player of the week, Paul Ortiz kicking a 36-yard field goal. During that drive Omaha suffered their first sack allowed as Armstrong was tackled by Victor Martinel for a six-yard loss. On their last drive of the third quarter, Billings was able to score again as Josh Best caught a 14-yard pass from Jamario Benson with 1:45 left. Armstrong needed only three plays to score as he hit Gourney Sloan with a 21-yard pass and Ortiz hit his fourth PAT and the Beef lead 30-12.  

Omaha’s defense then scored twice as Key James Black grabbed a fumble in the Outlaws endzone and JayShawn Washington picked up another fumble and returned it 40 yards as the defense scored for the third time and Washington’s second time. On the night, the Beef had two sacks, three fumble recoveries, and one interception. Washington (1.5 sacks) led the Beef with seven tackles as fellow defensive lineman Tamar Heart (.5 sack) added six. Aaron Jackson added the interception to go along with his three tackles. 

The Beef offense only threw 11 passes as Armstrong completed six of them for 63 yards. Sloan led the team with three catches for 27 yards while four others had one catch apiece. 

Billings under the helm of Shon King for the second time this season never got the offense in a groove. Jamario Benson started for the first time this year and went 11-21 for 76 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. He also led the team with seven rushes for 18 yardsAntoine led Billings with six tackles as Victor Martinelli added five to go along with his sack and interception. 

Omaha returns to Liberty First Arena Saturday as they host the winless Rapid City Marshals (0-6). Billings (2-4) will have another home game as the Southwest Kansas Storm (2-4) come to MetraPark as both teams sit at 2-4 and battling for the 5th and 6th seed in the playoffs.
