Colorado Spartans @ Omaha Beef

March 30th – 6:30pm CT

Liberty First Credit Union Arena

The Omaha Beef’s 2024 season started the same way the 2023 season ended, with a Beef victory. Omaha used a strong rushing game and took control late in the third quarter and outlasted the Carolina Cobras 54-43 at Greensboro Coliseum. Quarterback Tommy Armstrong, NAL Week 2 offensive player of the week, accounted for seven touchdowns and the defense forced two turnovers as the Beef won their opening game for the third straight season. This Saturday Omaha will host the Colorado Spartans for a 6:30pm kickoff at Liberty First Credit Union Arena. This will be the first meeting between the two squads.

Armstrong ran the ball 12 times for 87 yards and five touchdowns as the Beef rushed 25 times for 149 yards as a team. The Beef quarterback had another efficient game going 8 for 14 and 111 yards as Omaha outgained the Cobras 237 to 202. In 13 games as a member of the Beef Armstrong has rushed 92 times for 471 yards (36.2 ypg, 5.1 ypa) and 24 touchdowns, while going 110 for 178 passing (62%) for 1,390 yards. He has thrown 34 touchdowns and only 4 interceptions.

Two-way star Tabyus Taylor added 33 yards and a touchdown on the ground and caught another 3 balls for 34 yards. He also made four tackles in the game. Jordan Barton caught three pass for 38 yards and a touchdown while newcomer Korrell Koehlmoos added a catch for 32 yards and a touchdown. Ryan Hibbetts kicked one extra point and was able to score a rouge when the Cobras were tackled in the endzone on one of his kickoffs.

NAL week 2 defensive player of the week Dylan Pettway made eight tackles, picked up 1.5 sacks and a quarterback hurry in Sunday’s game. Zion Farmer also had 1.5 sacks among his four tackles and 1 quarterback hurry. Trey Dudley-Giles picked off the Cobras Guy Myers and Fulani Freeman recovered a fumble as the Beef only gave up 25 yards on the ground. Omaha allowed only ten first downs to the Cobras.

Colorado, coached by Fred Shaw, defeated the Cedar Rapids River Kings 35-26 at Loveland’s Blue Arena last Saturday in a non-league matchup. This game will be their first regular season NAL game.
