Ring in the “Noon Year” at Zoo

Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium invites guests to ring in the new year at its annual Noon Year’s Eve event on Tuesday, Dec. 31, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Noon Year’s Eve is a family-friendly event that allows guests of all ages to ring in the new year without staying up until the midnight hour. Have a wild time with entertainment from Joe Cole’s Magic Show, DJ music and an early crowd countdown to 2020, complete with a mini beach ball drop.

The countdown and mini beach ball drop will take place outside on the Desert Dome Plaza at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31. Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium has created a single-use balloon free event by using beach balls for the celebration, ultimately reducing waste that will be sent to a landfill.

Magician Joe Cole will perform magic tricks throughout the morning in Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom Pavilion and will follow up with a live show in the Wild Kingdom Pavilion Auditorium at 12:15 p.m. Craft stations will also be available inside the Wild Kingdom Pavilion and inside the Dessert Dome entrance.

Event activities are free to Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium members, or with regular      paid admission. The Zoo is open regular winter hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The only day the Zoo is closed is Christmas Day.

Families can start the celebration early by registering for the Noon Year’s Eve Safari, a Family Sleeping Bag Safari in the Scott Aquarium on Monday, Dec. 30, 2019. Spend the night at the Zoo,   and then stay and ring in 2020 early (on Dec. 31 at Noon Year’s Eve explained above). This  Overnight Safari is specially made for everyone who doesn’t want to stay up late to celebrate!

Family Sleeping Bag Safaris are overnight programs where guests spend the night at the Zoo and experience exhibits after-hours. The sleepover includes an evening hike, activities and a special  animal visit.
