Slowdown has a clean three-night run this weekend at 729 N. 14th St., and all three shows are listed as all ages. That is the easy version. The useful version is which room you are walking into, what it costs, and what Slowdown actually requires if anyone in your group is under 21.
Every time and price below comes from Slowdown’s own events calendar, checked Friday evening. Ticket links go to that calendar or to Eventim, the seller Slowdown is using for these shows.
Friday: The Pork Tornadoes in the Main Room
The Midwest party band is in the Main Room tonight with Fountains of Dane opening. Doors are at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8. Slowdown lists general admission at $20 in advance or $25 day of show, with reserved balcony seats at $40. Eventim, when we checked Friday evening, was displaying day-of general admission at $32.11 after a $7.11 service fee and balcony reserved at $50.17 after a $10.17 fee, so look at the total before you tap buy.
If you want a reserved perch, balcony is the seat that was still offered on the Eventim page. Pitside reserved sections were listed as no longer available.
Saturday: Kat Hasty in the Front Room
Country songwriter Kat Hasty plays the Front Room on Saturday with Tyler Richton. Same skeleton: doors at 7 p.m., show at 8. Slowdown prices the night at $20 to $25 and lists it as all ages. The Front Room is the smaller space, so this is the one where showing up closer to doors actually changes your night.
Sunday: Madre Cumbia
Sunday night is billed as Madre Cumbia, with Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto and Carmelo Torres. Doors at 7 p.m., show at 8, listed as all ages, $25 to $30. If Friday is the big party band and Saturday is the songwriter room, Sunday is the night you go for the band, not the singalong.
What “all ages” means here
Slowdown’s All Ages page is more specific than the asterisk on the calendar. Anyone, including adults, needs a valid photo ID at the door. Guests 17 and under need a notarized Music Venue Parental Consent form on file, unless a parent or legal guardian stays with them for the whole show. Slowdown does not have a notary on staff. Anyone under 21 cannot be admitted until one hour before showtime and has to leave when the performance ends.
If you are bringing teenagers, handle the form before you get in line. The venue says the form can be filed during regular hours, mailed, or presented at the door, and that later visits only work if the “any live performance” option is already on file.
How we would do it
Tonight if you want volume and a Main Room crowd: Pork Tornadoes, and budget for the day-of price plus fees unless you already have a ticket. Saturday if you want a smaller room: Kat Hasty. Sunday if you want the weekend’s most distinct set: Madre Cumbia. Film Streams’ Ruth Sokolof Theater sits next door (the cinema lists Slowdown as a neighbor), but check Film Streams for what is actually screening before you try to make it a double feature.
These three dates are also on our Tonight and This Weekend calendars.
