OMAHA, Neb. – Union Omaha is entering a new era this season, leaving behind its longtime home at Werner Park and moving to Creighton University’s Morrison Stadium.
The Owls, a USL League One club established in 2020, spent their first six seasons playing at the Papillion Minor League baseball stadium. During that time, Werner Park helped launch the franchise and build a loyal fan base, even as the field regularly transitioned from a baseball diamond to a soccer pitch.
Beginning this season, Union Omaha will play at Morrison Stadium. The move is temporary and part of a broader plan to eventually build a permanent soccer-specific stadium as part of a proposed downtown development. In the meantime, the Owls will share Morrison Stadium with the Creighton Blue Jays.
Owls Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Alexis Boulos said the move provides an opportunity to expand the team’s reach across Omaha.
“It really gives us the opportunity to build our fan base, both in North Omaha and South Omaha and the downtown and midtown communities,” Boulos said. “Folks that maybe couldn’t get out to Werner Park before.”
Boulos also reflected on the team’s time at Werner Park, calling it foundational to the club’s growth.
“It’s been our birthplace. It’s been our home for the last five seasons,” she said. “It’s been an amazing place for us to grow and understand how to run a successful sports organization. It was a great place for us to learn to walk before we could run.”
While the venue is changing, fans say the sense of community surrounding the team remains strong.
Isaiah Soma, an Owls fan who has attended every game since the team’s inaugural season, said the move is both exciting and meaningful.
“Oh, I was so excited, it was almost a dream come true,” Soma said. “Short of having our own stadium, it’s the next best thing… being downtown where everyone is, it’s awesome.”
For Soma, the team represents more than just soccer.
“It means everything to me,” he said. “That’s where I’ve met all of my best friends, it’s where I have so many great memories. I can’t believe that we’re finally making our way downtown.”
Union Omaha played its first match at Morrison Stadium last Sunday, defeating Athletic Club Boise 3-2.
As the team settles into its temporary home, fans say they’re ready to follow the Owls into this next chapter, while getting one step closer to a permanent stadium of their own.
