OMAHA Neb. – A Fast Start Sets the Tone
It starts with energy—and turns into execution.
From the opening serve to the final point, UNO tennis players Katelynn Kock and Nina Wiese bring intensity that immediately sets the tone. Whether it’s a powerful serve or a long rally, their ability to stay locked in early gives them an edge before opponents can settle in.
But what separates this duo isn’t just how they start—it’s how they work together.
Built on Balance
For Kock and Wiese, success comes down to a simple but effective formula: balance.
“I think we complement each other’s games pretty well,” Kock said. “We kind of balance each other out, which helps.”
That balance shows up in their contrasting styles. Wiese provides consistency, keeping points alive and limiting errors, while Kock takes advantage of those opportunities with aggressive play.
“Nina’s definitely the more consistent one out of us two,” Kock said. “And I feel like that allows me to be more aggressive and I feel like that works well together.”
It’s a partnership built on trust, where each player understands her role—and executes it.
Defined Roles, Shared Success
On the court, their strategy is clear.
Wiese focuses on control and endurance, setting up points and forcing opponents into mistakes. Kock, meanwhile, looks to capitalize attacking at the right moment and finishing points at the net.
“I definitely just make a lot of balls,” Wiese said. “That’s my playing style—to be a wall and keep staying aggressive, setting Katelynn up… just keeping the ball deep and cross.”
Together, their styles create constant pressure—turning defense into offense and keeping opponents off balance.
Energy Beyond the Scoreboard
While their performance stands out, their presence on the court goes beyond just winning points.
Kock, a sophomore, has stepped into a vocal leadership role—bringing energy not only to her matches, but to her teammates as well.
“It’s hard to step up as only a sophomore,” she said. “But I feel like I really try to bring the energy on the court, be loud, always cheering for my teammates, and just try to play for the people next to me.”

That energy fuels the team and reinforces the connection between the duo.
Coach’s Perspective
Head coach Andrew Summit sees more than just talent; he sees players who are willing to learn and adapt.
“The coachability—they really respond, can execute,” Summit said. “They really take the information I give them, they can process it, analyze it, and then they can go out and attack.”
That ability to adjust and grow has been key to their success throughout the season.
Making Program History
Individually, Kock and Wiese are standout players.
Together, they’ve elevated each other into something more than one of the most dominant doubles teams this program has ever seen.
And the results back it up.
With a program-record number of doubles wins in a single season, the duo has already etched their names into UNO tennis history.
Not Done Yet
Despite their success, both players remain focused on what’s ahead.
With strong chemistry, defined roles, and a growing confidence on the court, Kock and Wiese continue to build momentum as the season progresses.
And if their performance so far is any indication they’re far from finished.
