The Omaha metropolitan area is gearing up for an action-packed week of live entertainment, with an eclectic mix of outdoor concerts, interactive game shows, and a historic championship volleyball match.
Headlining the concert scene is Southern California punk rock institution Social Distortion, who will be taking the stage at The Astro in La Vista on Wednesday, May 22 at 6:30 p.m. Fronted by Mike Ness, who was recently honored with his own holiday in the band’s hometown of Fullerton, the group is known for their high-octane live performances. On Saturday, May 18, the Holland Center will host “Josh Gates Live,” an evening of real-life adventure tales from the charismatic host of Discovery Channel series like “Expedition Unknown.” Gates, who holds a degree in archaeology, will share stories of his journeys to the far corners of the earth. Indie pop band Bleachers, led by Grammy-winning producer Jack Antonoff, will bring their genre-blending sound to Steelhouse Omaha on Wednesday, May 22 at 7:30 p.m. Antonoff is known for his work with A-list artists like Taylor Swift and Lorde. Singer-songwriter Samia will open the show. Tickets start at $65.
Game show fans are in for a treat as “Wheel of Fortune Live” rolls into the Orpheum Theater on Sunday, May 19 at 7 p.m. The interactive stage show will give randomly selected audience members a chance to spin a replica of the iconic wheel and solve puzzles to win prizes. Tickets start at $35.50.
In sports news, Omaha’s pro volleyball team, the Supernovas, have spiked their way to the championship match in their inaugural season. After a nail-biting reverse sweep of the San Diego Mojo, they’ll face off against the Grand Rapids Rise at the CHI Health Center on Saturday, May 18 at 3:30 p.m. The match will air nationally on CBS Sports Network, and a $1 million bonus is on the line. Tickets start at $9.
