Oklahoma Flying Aces @ Omaha Beef May 4th – 6:30pm CT Liberty First Credit Union Arena |
After a third bye in four weeks, the 3-0 Omaha Beef are looking to extend their winning streak to 16 games as they host the Oklahoma Flying Aces at Liberty First Credit Union Arena Saturday night. The Beef were supposed to play in Enid, Oklahoma on April 13th, but that game was postponed until May 25th. The Flying Aces are 0-3 in National Arena League play, losing to the Sioux City Bandits twice in Sioux City and to the Idaho Horsemen last Saturday night 49-36. Oklahoma now has a different owner and coach than they had when they played Sioux City. Joey Jones is now the owner of the team, while Mark Timberlake has taken over as coach for Richard Davis.
Quarterback Tommy Armstrong, who won his second offensive player of the week award in the week six win, leads the team and NAL with 210 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns, while averaging 70 yards per game. Tabyus Tabor is second on the team with 71 yards (35.5 avg/game). Armstrong has connected on 55.3 percent of his passes for 370 yards and six touchdowns for a pass efficiency rate of 104.0, which leads the NAL. Rookie Korrell Koehlmoos leads the team with 163 yards and three touchdowns on eight catches, while Jordan Barton has eight receptions for 105 yards and two touchdowns.
Omaha’s defense claimed its second defensive player of the week award when Camron Hunt won for his efforts in the 63-14 win over Idaho. The Beef defense is leading the NAL with 10 sacks on the season as Rodell Rahmaan (3), Dylan Pettway (1.5), Zion Farmer (1.5), Rudy Ngougni (1), Juleon Harrison (1), Hunt (1) and Darryl Pointer (1) have recorded sacks for the Beef. Chris Perry and Trey Dudley-Giles, second and third in Beef history in interceptions, have made two picks this season. Perry now has 18 in his seven season with Omaha, while Dudley-Giles has 16 in five seasons. Both trail Donate Jones who had 20 in three season (2002-04). Defensive back Ponce Deleon, tied for 1st in the NAL in average tackles per game with 7.7, leads the team with 23 tackles. Pettway (17) and Terrance Jackson Jr (12) are the second and third leading tacklers for the Beef.
Oklahoma, who have let to play in Enid, has used three different quarterbacks this season. Torrance Carr-Young, Fred Payton Jr, and Hasan Muhammad have been under center for the Flying Aces. They have had a balanced attack averaging 4.1 yards per rush (248 total rush yards) and 5.3 yards per pass (291 yards passing). Muhammad leads the team with 129 rushing yards. Zuri Davis, with 7 receptions, leads the team catches and receiving yards.
Defensive back Arnell Anderson is the leading tackler for the Flying Aces with 20. He is also one of five players you have made a sack in the 2024 season. Muhammad, who played defensive back before the move to QB, is second with 10. Oklahoma has seen a high rate of turnover on its roster with all of the off the field issues the team has seen.
