Old Fashioned Drink of the Week

Welcome to Now Omaha’s “Drink of the Week” feature, where we showcase a unique and tasty libation for you to try at one of our city’s many fine establishments.

This week, we’re featuring the “Old Fashioned.” This classic cocktail has been around for centuries, and for good reason. It’s simple, yet sophisticated, and packs a punch of flavor that is sure to satisfy.

To make an Old Fashioned, you’ll need:

  • 2 ounces of whiskey (rye or bourbon work well)
  • 1 sugar cube
  • 2 dashes of bitters
  • Orange peel and cherry for garnish

Start by placing the sugar cube in the bottom of a mixing glass or shaker. Add the bitters and a splash of water, and muddle the ingredients together until the sugar has dissolved. Add the whiskey and fill the glass with ice. Stir the mixture until it is well-chilled, then strain it into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice. Garnish with a twist of orange peel and a cherry, and you’re ready to sip on this classic cocktail.

If you’re feeling adventurous, try using a flavored syrup or liqueur in place of the sugar, or switch up the type of whiskey you use. The Old Fashioned is a versatile drink that can be tailored to your personal taste preferences.

We hope you’ll give the Old Fashioned a try, and be sure to check back next week for another delicious “Drink of the Week.”
