Hello, NowOmaha.com readers! The first morning you have to scrape the windshield before work is when this drink earns its spot. Ripe pears are at their sweetest right now, and a little vanilla turns them into something that tastes like the inside of a warm bakery, even when the wind is coming hard off the river. It is light, bubbly, and easy enough to make on a weeknight.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 oz vodka
  • 2 oz pear nectar
  • 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 oz vanilla simple syrup (or 1/4 oz simple syrup plus 2 drops vanilla extract)
  • 2 oz club soda
  • Sugar for the rim, a thin pear slice and a lemon wedge for garnish
  • Ice

Instructions:

  1. Run a lemon wedge around the rim of a tall glass and dip it in sugar.
  2. Fill the glass with ice.
  3. Shake the vodka, pear nectar, lemon juice and vanilla syrup with ice for 10 seconds.
  4. Strain into the glass and top with club soda.
  5. Garnish with the pear slice and lemon wedge.

Make one while the furnace kicks on for the first real time this season. Cheers to frost on the pumpkins, Omaha!
