Hello, NowOmaha.com readers! Friendsgiving is the potluck where somebody always brings three kinds of mac and cheese and nobody complains. Our contribution this year is a Sidecar dressed for the season: brandy, orange liqueur and lemon, with a splash of apple cider and a cinnamon sugar rim. It is a classic for a reason, and the cider makes it taste like November.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 oz brandy or apple brandy
  • 3/4 oz orange liqueur (Cointreau or triple sec)
  • 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz apple cider
  • Cinnamon sugar (2 Tbsp sugar plus 1/2 tsp cinnamon) for the rim
  • Orange twist for garnish
  • Ice

Instructions:

  1. Rim a chilled coupe or Nick and Nora glass with cinnamon sugar.
  2. Add brandy, orange liqueur, lemon juice and cider to a shaker with ice.
  3. Shake hard for 12 seconds.
  4. Strain into the glass.
  5. Express the orange twist over the top and drop it in.

Batch tip: multiply by eight, stir in a pitcher without ice, and shake to order. Cheers to the friends who feel like family, Omaha!
