Drink of the Week: Omaha Sunrise – A Twist on a Classic Cocktail

As we head into spring and summer, it’s the perfect time to enjoy a bright and refreshing cocktail. This week, we’re featuring the Omaha Sunrise, a delicious drink that’s perfect for sipping while soaking up the sun.

But first, a bit of history. The Omaha Sunrise is a twist on the classic Tequila Sunrise, a cocktail that originated in California in the 1930s. The original version of the drink consisted of tequila, crème de cassis, lime juice, and soda water, and was served in a tall glass with ice. However, over the years, the recipe has evolved, and today, the Tequila Sunrise typically consists of tequila, orange juice, and grenadine, and is often served in a shorter glass.

The Omaha Sunrise takes inspiration from the Tequila Sunrise, but replaces the tequila with vodka for a smoother, less boozy flavor. It also swaps out the lime juice for cranberry juice, which gives the drink its signature bright red color. The result is a sweet and fruity cocktail that’s perfect for sipping on a warm day.

To make an Omaha Sunrise, you’ll need:

  • 1 1/2 oz. vodka
  • 1 oz. orange juice
  • 1 oz. cranberry juice
  • 1/2 oz. grenadine
  • Orange slice for garnish

Directions:

  1. Fill a shaker with ice.
  2. Add the vodka, orange juice, cranberry juice, and grenadine.
  3. Shake well.
  4. Strain the mixture into a glass filled with ice.
  5. Garnish with an orange slice.

Sip your Omaha Sunrise while enjoying the view of the city or while relaxing in your backyard. It’s a perfect drink to share with friends or to enjoy solo.

Cheers to a great week!
