Lancers take top spot in USHL with Win over Des Moines

OMAHA TOPS DES MOINES, 4-1

Ralston, NE – It was game three of the weekend for the Lancers as they welcomed the Des Moines Buccaneers to Ralston Arena on Sunday. The Lancers and Bucs have played five-time prior to Sunday nights game. Omaha has won four out of the five previous. Vinnie Purpura was called on to play between the pipes. Vinnie is ranked third in the USHL among all goaltenders.

It was not until late into the first period when the Lancers got on the board first. Filip Suchy scored on Jake Kucharski to give the Lancers the 1-0 lead going into the first intermission.

In the second period, Jack Randl capitalized on the power play to give the Lancers a 2-0 lead.

Des Moines got on the board with a goal from Brian Halonen in the third period. Lancers kept on the attack with 5:30 to play when Noah Cates sniped the puck past Kucharski. Des Moines emptied their net for the extra attack, but Jack Randl took advantage and put the puck in the net. The Lancers topped the Buccaneers for the fifth time winning, 4-1.

Purpura stopped 18 of the 19 Des Moines shots that he faced.

The Lancers improved to 26-10-2-0 with 55 points and are now sitting at first place in the USHL.
