Veterans Day falls on Wednesday, Nov. 11, but two metro-area parades happen this Saturday. Here is what organizers have posted for Nov. 7, plus a short VA ceremony early next week.
Bellevue: Nebraska’s Official Veterans Day Parade
The Bellevue Chamber of Commerce runs the parade, which it bills as Nebraska’s Official Veterans Day Parade, on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 10 a.m. in Bellevue. Per the chamber, the parade starts at Mission Avenue and Jackson Street, travels down Mission Avenue, turns left onto Franklin Street and ends at Washington Park. The grandstand is at 209 W. Mission Ave. The chamber lists the event as 10 a.m. to noon and says there is no charge to watch. It also says mini American flags will be available near the grandstand for spectators while supplies last.
Council Bluffs, Iowa: Council Bluffs Veterans Day Parade
Across the river in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the Council Bluffs Veterans Day Parade begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7. Organizers say lineup starts at 10 a.m. at the south corner of 9th Avenue and Main Street downtown. The parade foundation lists a lunch afterward at American Legion Post 2, 716 S. Fourth St., and says all veterans are welcome to walk in its “Platoon.” This year’s listed grand marshals are Patricia Holeton and Ernest Techau. A route map is posted on the parade’s website.
Omaha: VA wreath laying, Tuesday, Nov. 10
VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care lists a Veterans Day wreath laying on Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 11 to 11:30 a.m. in the Ambulatory Care Center hallway at the Omaha VA, 4101 Woolworth Ave. The VA describes it as short remarks followed by the wreath laying, and lists the cost as free.
