Omaha’s Zoo and Aquarium Opens Lee G. Simmons Aviary After Renovation

On Friday, July 23, the Lee G. Simmons Aviary will open at 9 a.m. to the general public after being closed for renovations.

An elevated and on ground boardwalk takes visitors through the Aviary with a special section dedicated to flamingo viewing. Easier walking and viewing provide a great bird watching experience with more than 250 birds calling the Aviary home.

“We now have a beautiful 1.3 acre renovated outdoor space for our birds and new learning opportunities for guests as we introduce them to bird watching,” said Dennis Pate, President and CEO of Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium. “Not only is there a beautiful, enhanced space to develop bird watching skills, but we have capped off the 10-year master plan that has transformed our Zoo into a predominately immersive experience.”  Other pieces of the master plan included the Scott African Grasslands, Scott Alaskan Adventure Splashgrounds, Bay Family Children’s Adventure Trails, Harper Event Center, Asian Highlands, and Owen Sea Lion Shores.
