Recently, two members of leadership at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium were chosen to lead national organizations representative of their career field.
Julie Napier, D.V.M., senior veterinarian at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, was named the President of the American Association of Zoo and Veterinarians (AAZV) for 2019. AAZV has a mission to empower its members to advance the profession and enhance wild animal health, welfare and conservation. This is Napier’s fourth year serving AAZV, including the positions of secretary, vice president and president-elect. Napier joined Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium as senior veterinarian in 2006. She is also the Zoo’s Emergency Preparedness Program Manager, Veterinary Advisor for the Amur and generic leopard Species Survival Plan (SSP), co-Veterinary Advisor for the tiger SSP, and Veterinary Advisor for the Prehensile-tailed Porcupine SSP .
Brian Timm, director of facilities at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, is this year’s President of the Aquarium and Zoo Facilities Association (AZFA). AZFA is an organization made up of facilities-related individuals from zoos and aquariums throughout the United States, Canada and abroad. Timm has had multiple roles with AZFA, including vice president and president-elect and has also chaired the group’s Conference Committee, Educational Committee and Site Selection Committee during his seven-year involvement with AZFA. He is a certified Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Coordinator and has served on the Board of Directors for the Fremont Area Habitat for Humanity and the Village of Arlington’s Planning Commission. Timm has been at Omaha’s Zoo and Aquarium for eight years.
